Investments worth of $200 billion in Gulf till 2010

The chairman of the Gulf Investment Institution, Khaled Al Fayez, stated that the investment projects that will be established in the Gulf till the year 2010 are worth $200 billion.

He added that the best investment opportunities during the upcoming 15 years are expected to be in the following fields: oil, gas, petrochemicals, electricity, water, aluminum, infrastructure, education and health. He expected that half of the investments are going to be in the fields of oil and gas, which could reach $100 billion till the year 2010.

Al Fayez added that the upcoming three years will witness investments worth $80 billion, 45% of which will go into the industries of oil and gas. $18 billion of the total investments will go into the petrochemical projects, while $25 billion will go into the electricity and iron projects.

He elaborated that the investment projects include setting up an oil pipeline through the Gulf countries and setting up power generation stations. He stated that Saudi Arabia needs investments worth $60 billion till the year 2010.

Al Fayez stressed the fact that Japanese investments in the Middle East have decreased while they rose in other parts of the world. The total Japanese investments in the world are worth about $50 billion. The Japanese investments in the Gulf countries do not exceed $412 million per year.
