Israeli warplanes strike resistance positions
Lebanon, Military, 11/29/1997
Israeli warplanes on Saturday struck Lebanese resistance positions in the hilltops of Iqlim al-Tuffah for the second straight day this week, security sources said. There were no casualties.
The sources said jets fired two missiles on the hilltops of Iqlim al-Tuffah, a mountainous area facing the occupied enclave. They added that the air strike came shortly after Hizbullah guerrillas ambushed an Israeli patrol driving toward the village of Sujud, in the central sector of the zone.
A Hizbullah statement said its fighters also ambushed the Israeli position in Bir Kellab, causing material damage.
Israeli helicopters strafed the area opposite the enclave, but there were no casualties.
Hizbullah guerrillas attacked the Bir Kellab position yesterday afternoon with machine guns and mortars, damaging the post but causing no casualties.
A statement from the group said Israeli helicopters were driven off by heavy ground fire.
Shortly afterwards, an Israeli patrol was ambushed by the guerrillas as it approached the Kassaret el-Oroush position.
Israeli artillery shelled the Iqlim al-Tuffah and a plane fired two missiles into a nearby ravine in an attempt to hit retreating guerrillas. No Hizbullah casualties were reported.
