Israeli lieutenant wounded in south Lebanon
Lebanon, Military, 11/28/1997
An Israeli soldier was injured Thursday in an attack by the Lebanese resistance which provoked Israeli air retaliation, security sources said.
They said the resistance attack with machine guns and mortars on an Israeli position in Sujud injured an Israeli lieutenant, who was being treated in a hospital in Israel.
Following the attack, Israeli warplanes raided Hezbollah bases in Iqlim al-Tuffah, which faces an Israeli-occupied enclave in the south. The sources said the planes fired off four rockets over the area, causing no casualties.
Thursday's violence came amid continuing tension in south Lebanon after fighting killed 16 people - nine civilians and seven Shiite guerrillas - earlier in the week.
