Doha conference boycott consolidates Arab solidarity
Egypt, International, 11/28/1997

Egypt's foreign minister Amr Mousa has asserted the need to safeguard the Middle East peace process.

In a statement to Monte Carlo radio Mousa called upon Israel to give up its policies and resume negotiations with the Palestinians according to provisions and conditions previously signed between the two sides. He noted the need of Israel's commitment to suspend its settlement policy, and to redeploy the Israeli army in the Palestinians territories and towns according to signed agreement.

He indicated the common views shared between the Arab states, Europe and the US on the need to establish just and durable peace in the region. He continued that the boycott of major Arab states of the Doha Summit Conference constituted a significant back up to Arab solidarity and a message addressed to the Israeli government on the need to give up its intransigent stances.

He said he thinks the majority of the Israelis oppose stances advocated by their government concerning peace and fully support the peace process.
