GCC wants pressure on Israel and Iran cooperation
Gulf Region, Politics, 11/27/1997
The ministerial council of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council "GCC", reiterated commitment of the GCC member states to a fair and comprehensive peace in the region, and asked Israel to withdraw from the occupied Arab territories including Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and South Lebanon.
This was expressed by Kuwait's first deputy, Premier and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad Al Sabah, in a press conference held in conclusion of the 65th session of the GCC ministerial council. Sheikh al Ahmad said that the GCC foreign ministers asserted that Israel's intransigent policies led to the recession in the peace process. This matter requires an active U.S move and efforts that can be maintained through exerting pressure on the government of Netanyahu, in order to abide by relevant signed agreements and resume talks on all peace tracks according to international resolutions and the land for peace principle.
The participants held a unanimous stand on the need of Iraq's implementation of all relevant UN resolutions, Sheikh Sabah said, adding that the participants hoped the forthcoming phase to witness positive development between Iran and the GCC states in the interests of all sides concerned.
