United Arab Emirates, Politics, 11/27/1997
During a meeting with chief editors of the Egyptian dailies Sheikh Zayed insisted on the need to intensify Arab efforts and strengthen Arab solidarity against challenges aimed at undermining the security and stability of the Arab nation.
Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan mentioned that Arabs are expected to unify their ranks to defend the Arab nation's rights. He also noted the common destiny the Arab states enjoy. In remarks about the Doha economic conference, The UAE President clearly criticized certain Arab sides which have built their stances outside the frame of Arab consensus and national interests.
He held the Israeli government responsible for the current stalemate in the peace process in its violation of Madrid conference terms of reference and land for peace formula. He stressed Arab refusal of the Israeli settlement policy and Israel's unilateral stand to impose its own peace, urging the need to benefit from lessons of October liberation war which had embodied a unique Arab solidarity formula.
