Palestinian on hunger-strike faces life-threatening situation
Palestine, Local, 11/26/1997
Itaf Elayan, the Palestinian prisoner who has been on hunger strike for 35 days, is now facing a life-threatening situation, Palestinian sources said.
Elayan, whom Israel claims is member of the Islamic Jihad, was visited in prison lately by Hisham Abdul Razeq, Qaddoura Fares and Issa Qaraqe', all members of the Palestinian negotiating team that handles issues of Palestinian prisoners in Israel.
The three said that Elayan is currently held at the Ramleh prison hospital and that she has lost lots of weight and refused to receive any milk or vitamins. They said Elayan insists her arrest was illegal and that she was not ready for any compromise to cease her hunger strike except for an immediate release from prison.
