Hamas chief demands prisoners' release
Palestine, Politics, 11/25/1997
Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the founder of the Palestinian National Resistance Movement Hamas, has called upon the world countries and the Islamic nations to intervene in support of releasing thousands of Palestinians prisoners detained in Israeli jails.
Addressing a sit-in called for by Palestinian groups at Red Cross headquarters in occupied Gaza, Sheikh Ahmad said holding innocent prisoners, including women, detained without proof of guilt is a gross violation of all international laws and norms.
Addressing the detainees Sheikh Ahmad said: "We fully support you, and we shall do our utmost for your freedom in order to contribute to establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."
He said the Palestinian people are stronger than their challengers and will remain united to confront the enemy until occupation ends. Hundreds of representatives from many Palestinian political forces and families took part in the sit-in.
