Britain voices support for Lebanon
Lebanon, Politics, 11/21/1997
British ambassador David McLennan on Thursday pledged continued British support of Lebanon's effort to liberate its South.
Ambassador McLennan underlined the importance of Israel's commitment to adhere to the requirements of the April Understanding, which states that Israel and Lebanon are to refrain from attacking civilian areas. The April understanding was reached by Israel and Lebanon in 1996 following Israel' s Grapes of Wrath offensive against Lebanon.
The British ambassador voiced his country's commitment to reviving the blockaded peace process, noting that British Prime Minister Tony Blair urged Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu during his recent visit to London to resume talks on the stalled peace tracks.
