Kuwait refuses military attacks against Iraq
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 11/21/1997

Kuwait yesterday added its voice to a chorus opposed to military action against its former invader, Iraq, in Baghdad's confrontation with the UN.

"We have not supported any military action against Iraq," Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, who is also deputy prime minister, told reporters after meeting Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo.

Mubarak received a message from Kuwait's leader, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al Sabah on issues of mutual concern and the Iraqi standoff.

The top Kuwaiti diplomat's two visit in Cairo is a part of a regional tour which also includes Syria and Lebanon.

He blamed Iraq for leading the Arab world into another crisis. "Who has created the Arab situation? Was it not the Iraqi regime by occupying Kuwait?" he asked.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa told reporters he would meet Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz in Cairo soon to discuss this problem, Al Ahrar daily said today.
