AL urges US to rethink Sudan sanctions
Sudan, Politics, 11/18/1997
The Arab League urged the United States to reconsider sanctions it imposed on Sudan for alleged sponsorship of terrorism and human rights abuses, Al Ahrar daily said today.
The general secretariat, affirming its great desire to maintain the unity, safety and sovereignty of Sudan, called on the United States to rethink the sanctions taken against Sudan, it said.
"The general secretariat of the Arab League is surprised at the issuing of this decision (the sanctions) at a time when Sudan's external relations are developing positively` and a new round of peace talks has started," it said in a statement.
