Secret report about Israeli Shin Bet
Israel, Politics, 11/18/1997
A report released on the Yitzhak Rabin assassination revealed a dark side of Israel's domestic security service charged with protecting the prime minister.
But the annex to the state probe conducted last year contained nothing to corroborate a host of conspiracy theories dogging the murder by a right-wing Jewish militant.
The report details the Shin Bet security service's handling of 8-year agent Aveshai Raviv. The report said he harassed Palestinians, incited violence against Arabs and Jews, and told friends - including the assassin, Yigal Amir - that a religious death edict applied to Rabin, Al Ahrar daily said today.
"We are looking here at an agent whose behavior was rife with provocation who was not controlled appropriately by his handlers and who sometimes received approval for his extremist activities," the report said.
