PLO needs enforcing Geneva Convention
Palestine, Politics, 11/17/1997
The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) called over last two days for a conference of signatories of the fourth Geneva Convention, which bars settlement in occupied zones to ensure that it applies to the area occupied by Israel since 1967.
"It is our hope the Swiss government, in its capacity as depository of the convention, will commence with the necessary preparatory measures for the convening of the conference," the P.L.O'S UN observer, Nasser Al-Kidwa, told an emergency special session of the general assembly.
Israel's UN envoy Dore Gold said such a conference would constitute "a dangerous mix of the political and the humanization spheres," that would have far-reaching consequences for cases of humanitarian aid across the world, Al Ahrar said today November 17.
