The cabinet's decides: the army will act , and radio shut-down
Lebanon, Politics, 11/13/1997

Ministers agreed to ask the Lebanese army to take the appropriate measures in the Hermel-Bekaa area, during the cabinet's meeting, yesterday. This move was suggested by interior minister Michel Murr, according to the fourth article of the Defense Law. The military measures will last for three months, starting yesterday.

Breakaway Sheikh Sobhi Toufeili answered immediately after the meeting through his radio station. While asking his followers to avoid confrontation with the army, he described the country's politicians as "enemies of God and humanity, who must not set foot in our region."

The cabinet, presided over by President Elias Hrawi along with Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, also voted for the shut-down of every unlicensed television and radio broadcasting company. The labor strike scheduled for today, on the other hand, was not discussed.
