Algeria, Military, 11/13/1997
28 civilians were killed and 13 have been wounded in massacres and bomb attacks in the last week in Algeria, Algerian newspapers reported yesterday.
A bomb explosion killed two people in Sidi Nadjdi area in the province of Medea, 45 miles south of Algiers, on Saturday, Le Soir d'Algerie newspaper said.
Twelve people, mostly schoolchildren, were wounded in the same province also on Saturday when the bus they were traveling in hit a roadside bomb, the newspaper said.
On Friday, about 20 gunmen stopped 22 civilians at a fake roadblock in Tlemcen province, bound them with wires and then took them into a wasteground nearby and killed them all, EL Watan and Al Akhbar newspaper said.
They said most of the victims--six women, 15 men and one teenager--were heading for mass prayers at a mosque near Tajmout, 250 miles west of Algiers, Al Ahrar daily said today.
Meanwhile, for the second time in 72 hours, the area of Bab Wad was subjected to a number of explosions. The Market of the Dealers was saved from great danger as the news of the existence of the bomb was spread before its explosion, thus nobody was hurt.
