Moroccans use computers in election campaigns for first time
Morocco, Politics, 11/12/1997
Computers are among the many modern technological devices used by the Moroccan nominees in their election campaigns for the Moroccan elections due to be held on 14 November.
Nominees used statistics to know the areas where they enjoy a majority. They contacted the voters in these areas through the computer devices to learn the voters' views of their election programs. Nominees also presented their election promises through the computer and received immediate feedback from the public. These computer simulations, polling and sampling having been used extensively in the western countries and have been seen to be quite effective tools for politicians in getting the pulse of voters.
Media circles in Morocco found that the ordinary means of presenting the election programs, the debates between the nominees, and the political addresses have become out of date. Thus, the nominees thought of using the modern technologies to get more privileges in this election.
