Meguid calls for coordination in confronting Israel

Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Esmat Abdel Meguid called on all the forces believing in peace to confront the attempts and hostile plans aiming to undermine the peace process. He also called for consolidating the efforts to resume the talks on all tracks.

In the opening session of the 9th Meeting of the Council of the Arab Ministers of Environment, Abdel Meguid declared that resuming negotiations on all tracks will encourage everybody and will increase the hopes of all Arab peoples who suffer from the Israeli occupation in order to start the construction operations.

Abdel Meguid called on all Arab countries to confront the Israeli attempts in the international venues to achieve political and economic targets which harm Arab interests.

He also said that there is an Arab consensus to confront the Israeli attempts to harm the Arab interests. He requested that all Arab countries treat any Arab commodity as if it were their local product.

The Egyptian Minister of Environment, Dr. Nadia Makram Ebeid, stated that the scope of the challenges facing the Arab nation necessitates greater coordination and cooperation among the Arab governmental and non-governmental agencies. She added that the Arab peoples are required to participate in environmental efforts.

The head of the executive office of the Council of the Arab Ministers of Environment Emir Fahd Bin Abdalla Al Saud stated that the Arab countries are required to apply the environmental suggestions of the council for 1998, most important of which is holding seminars in the Faculties of Education regarding the environmental education. He added that one of the most dangerous problems facing the Arab nation is the illegitimacy of the Israeli environmental activities, which harm the Palestinian people and the Arab occupied lands.

Lebanese Minister of Environment Akram Sheheib called on the Arab countries to protect their environments and to work on developing their resources.

Sudanese Minister of Environment and Tourism Mohamed Taher declared that Sudan has 8 natural protectorates and that Sudan exerts great efforts to protect them.
