Heated confrontations expected among Moroccan parties
Morocco, Politics, 11/10/1997
The countdown for the Moroccan election, due to be held Friday, has started and the Moroccan parties continued the promotion of their different agendas in a bid to win votes.
The leading member of the Socialist Federation, Abdel Meguid Bu Zwe'a, criticized the Moroccan government as it did not respect its commitments regarding the charter of honor it signed with the central offices of the syndicates last year, which led to many strikes last week by the members of these syndicates.
Bu Zwe'a said that the programs of the parties which have formed the government during the past decades are responsible for the crisis faced by Morocco at the present time on all levels. He called on voters not to vote for those parties again.
In a statement by a leader of an opposition party, the head of the Independence opposition party, Mohamed Bu Seta, stated that tough measures will be taken which will have great implications. He also criticized dividing the country into many election areas.
Meanwhile, the political parties continued their efforts to present their election programs while strong competition among the leaders of the parties are expected in various areas which will increase in the rural areas.
