Egyptian spy petition and accuses Israeli spy of getting him involved
Egypt, Judicial, 11/10/1997
The lawyer Ahmed Bakr petitioned against a sentence of life imprisonment with hard labor issued against the Egyptian spy Emad Al Din Ismail and asked for the ruling to be abolished and for a retrial before a different court.
On August 31, the Higher State Security Court issued the rulings in the spy case which also included the life imprisonment sentences against two Israeli women, Mona Ahmed Shawahna and Zahra Youssef Greiss.
Bakr informed Al Hayat newspaper that he submitted the petition to the Military Courts Department in which he said that the ruling against Ismail overlooked what was said in the records of the case, which proves that Ismail informed Egyptian security officials about the Israeli attempts to recruit him before the case was opened, thus he should be considered a witness not an offender.
The lawyer stressed the fact that the case records prove that the Israeli spy Azam Azam got Ismail involved in the case in order not to have a severe sentence after he was indicted.
