Egypt candidate for Unesco congress seat
Egypt, Politics, 11/5/1997
The Unesco congress yesterday held a special session at its Paris-based quarters to elect the new members of the organization's executive council within the context of the mid-term session for the council's 58 members.
Sources close to the nominations committee said Egypt stands a good chance of winning a council membership in light of its tireless efforts to promote Unesco activities in areas of education, culture and development.
Dr. Mofid Shehab, minister of higher education, who represented Egypt in the congress also enjoys the confidence of the majority of the delegations' leaders because of his tremendous experience as a lawmaker both in the Arab and international areas, Al Akhbar daily said today.
