Boeing to deliver advanced airplanes to Tunisia by 1999

Tunisian Airlines has reached an agreement with Boeing through which the former will receive Boeing planes by May 1999.These Boeing planes are the most advanced planes manufactured by Boeing, with a capacity of 124 passengers.

The planes, 737 model 600, are the smallest planes which were greatly modified in the American factory. These modifications gave the plane a wider wing, more speed, and stronger engine.

The deal will allow Tunisian Airlines to give Boeing back the 737 model 200 and 727 model 200 planes which have been in use for the past twenty years. Tunisia cannot use these planes any more due to new European and international regulations specifying the kind of planes allowed to fly on international lines.

The Tunisian Airlines will also benefit from the training and marketing agreements signed by the general manager of the Tunisian Airlines, Ahmed Al Salmawy, and the deputy international marketing manager of Boeing, Al Sadiq Be Yamani.

These agreements come within the attempts of the Tunisian Airlines to modernize its fleet to cope with the great increase in the number of flights during the past years. The number of passengers increased from 1.8 million passengers in 1987 to 7.2 million passengers in 1996. These agreements are also concurrent with the expansion process of the Airport of Tunis.
