The press conference of Moussa and Primakov

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa held a press conference with his Russian counterpart, Yevgeny Primakov, at the conclusion of their official discussions in Cairo.
Moussa stated that the discussions dealt with the peace process in the Middle East and the bilateral relations. Moussa confirmed that Russia is concerned and worried about the future of the peace process and that the discussions between the two countries are essential and will continue to decide the future steps needed to activate the peace process.
Primakov said that he came to Cairo in response to an invitation from his Egyptian counterpart, he said that Egypt's role in the region is very distinct and essential as it represents the whole Arab world spiritually and politically in the peace process which is passing through many difficulties. He added that his country greatly appreciates its relations with Egypt.
Primakov said that the Egyptian request by President Hosni Mubarak for Russia to activate its role in the Middle East made Russia move quickly as the other parties welcomed and needed this role. He also stated that the Egyptian and Russian points of view regarding the peace process and the issues of mutual interest are identical. Primakov clarified that the discussions dealt with the Israeli-Turkish relations and the internal situation in Iran and in northern Iraq.
The two sides agreed upon forming a committee to study the situation in the region, experts from the two countries will meet regularly to keep a constant contacts.
At the end of the joint press conference, Primakov announced that the Russian President decided to appoint the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Victor Bosfalov as the Russian permanent envoy to the Middle East peace process.
