Gulf countries culture ministers stress common values
Gulf Region, Politics, 10/30/1997
GCC culture ministers held today their sixth meeting in Doha. The one-day meeting dealt with the general cultural condition in the Gulf States, according to a press release that followed the conclusion of the meeting.
The press release outlined resolutions made by GCC ministers with a special focus on the importance of giving impetus to joint cultural action and developing it in every country of the GCC apart at the same time.
The ministers expressed their pride over cultural achievements in the region made possible over the last years thanks to the great efforts of GCC governments to boost cultural life and activity.
However, the ministers strongly criticized what they called unjustified hostile media campaigns against GCC countries by international organizations and considered such actions as interference in the internal affairs of each country in the region.
The press release finally noted that GCC countries share a special identity and particular traditions that stem from the rich legacy of the region. Moral values and Islam-based principles should be preserved despite any cultural openness that the countries in the region are witnessing.
