Anti-pollution police in Egypt

Hassan El Alfy Egypt's minister of interior approved in principle the formation of anti-pollution police, a Cairo daily reported this week.
According to the proposal submitted to the minister by the Central Agency for Environmental Preservation through its chairman, Dr. Laila Takla, the new police unit will be authorized to monitor and prevent violations of environment laws.
Its activities would cover encroachments on the Nile, factories dumping waste into the river and even cars running with faulty exhaust pipes.
Under the proposal, personnel will get high-Quality training on environmental issues and will be provided with the latest technologies to do their jobs, Al Akhbar daily said today.
