Restrictions keep Palestinians from West Bank universities
Palestine, Education, 10/28/1997
Palestinian students who live in Gaza have still been barred by Israel from going to their universities in the West Bank, Palestinian sources said.
The sources said that many university students who live in Gaza have decided to cancel their higher education plans due to restrictions of movement that Israel has imposed on them.
The PNA Ministry for Civil Affairs, which usually handles Palestinian requests for permits, called on the UNESCO, the UN and other world organizations to intervene with the Israeli government in order to allow those students to report to their universities. The Oslo Interim agreements had stated that Israel should allow the Palestinians a free passage between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, but this article is yet to be implemented.
