Two churches dug out in Palmyra
Syria, History, 10/27/1997
A joint Syrian-Polish archaeological team has recently excavated the remains of two churches in the western quarter of Palmyra. The director of museums and antiquities in Palmyra said that this year's program was a continuation of last year's works.
The remains of the two churches date from the Umayyad period. They were built over a Palmyrene house. Many panels were dug out depicting geometric and vegetal decorations.
