Sudan, Politics, 10/25/1997
Sudan's government and the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) confirmed yesterday that they will attend peace talks in the Kenyan capital Nairobi next week.
Officials at the Sudanese embassy in Nairobi said a minister from the National Islamic Front (NIF) government would lead a delegation to talks under Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) commander Salva Kir. The SPLA's chief of staff and deputy chairman of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)--the SPLA's political wing--is to lead a seven-person team, according to a spokesman for the movement, Al Khartoum daily said today.
