Lebanese public debt decreases by about 75 billion liras

The Lebanese actual public debt decreased by about 75 billion liras ($48 million). Its amount reached 23,441 billion liras at the end of August 1997 compared to 23,516 billion liras by the end of last July.
The report of the Lebanese Banks Association said that the internal debt reached 85.4 % of the public debt which represents 20,017 billion liras. The report also said that there was progress in the general budget in August which had a deficit which of 44.7 % compared to 52.95 % last June.
