Middle East-European seminar postponed because of Israeli participation
Morocco, Politics, 10/21/1997
The Middle East-European Seminar, whose second round of discussions was due to be held in Rabat, Morocco on 30 October, was postponed to an undetermined date after Israel informed Morocco that its Minister of Trade and Industry, Nathan Sharansky, would participate in the seminar along with a large Israeli delegation. 27 ministers of industry were expected to participate in the seminar.
The seminar was supposed to be held in Morocco. Luxembourg and Morocco were supposed to head the conference, and representatives of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank were supposed to attend to discuss the potentials of industrial cooperation between the member countries.
Diplomatic sources considered the insistence of the Israeli delegation to attend the conference inappropriate at this time, as the Arab countries are still waiting for the results of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks after a one-month halt.
