Egyptian security forces crack down on terrorists
Egypt, Politics, 10/17/1997

The Egyptian Interior Ministry continued its efforts in tracking the perpetrators of the two terrorist attacks which occurred in Al Minya governorate, south of Egypt which resulted in the death of 11 police officers last Monday.

A security source stated that the ministry has devised a plan to surround large areas of sugar cane fields as it is thought that the terrorists hide in them after carrying out their attacks.

The source added that the search operations will concentrate on arresting terrorists who are members of the Gamat Islamya. The roads to and from Al Minya were closed along with the roads leading to the villages in order to track down these terrorists.

The perpetrators of the two terrorist attacks distributed leaflets titled "The Squad of Terror," in which they mentioned that their activities aim to retaliate the execution sentences on their colleagues last August.
