The Russian Prime Minister in the Region End of this Month
Egypt, 10/15/1997

The Russian Prime Minister Yevegini Premakov will pay Egypt a 3-day official visit on October 29 within his tour that will start with Lebanon, Syria, Israel, the Palestinian self-rule areas, Jordan and will end with Egypt.

The Russian ambassador in Cairo, Veladamir Godiev, stated that the visit of the Russian Prime Minister was fixed during President Hosni Mubarak's visit to Moscow. The visit will focus on activating the Russian role in the peace process and on increasing the number of visits between Russia and the parties involved in it.

Regarding the Russian participation in the MENA Conference in Doha, the Russian Ambassador mentioned that there are some obstacles obstructing Russia's agreement to participate in the conference, as Russia considers the economic conferences part of the peace process and these conferences should help improve the climate of the Israeli-Palestinian relations.

As for the Russian stance toward the Israeli intransigence in the negotiations and its settlement policy, Godiev stated that efforts should be exerted to help the two sides reach tangible results in the peace process which the international community is looking for.
