Syrian-Lebanese academic program
Syria-Lebanon, Education, 10/15/1997

The Syrian-Lebanese follow up committee on October 14 held a meeting in which it formulated a program for academic cooperation in the field of higher education and scientific research.

The program, which is to be initiated in 1998-1999, provides for holding four scientific symposiums in the sciences of objects, biological diversity and earthquakes. The symposiums will be held in cooperation with the faculties of the Syrian and Lebanese universities.

The program is set up as a result of Lebanese Higher Education Minister Fawzi Hbe'shi's visit to Damascus and his talks with the Syrian Higher Education Minister Salha Sanqar.

Meanwhile, Syrian Prime Minister Mahmoud Al Zou'bi received on October 14 the director general of the Arab Education Culture and Sciences Organization, Mohammed al Meliu Ibrahim.

Talks dealt with the activities of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences as well as the works of the scientific council of the Arab center currently held in Damascus. Means of cooperation relations between Syria and the organization and a number of issues with common interest were also discussed.

Earlier the Syrian Minister of Education Mohammad Ghassan Al Halabi received Mohammed Al Meli Ibrahim.

Talks centered on developing cooperation between the Ministry and Alesco in order to improve the education sector.
