Two men were formally charged by an Egyptian military court in a September 18 attack on a tourist bus in Cairo, Egypt in which the Eyptian bus driver and nine Germans were killed, according to a MSNBC report. Go

The Saudi-based Arabsat has agreed to broadcast another French television channel after scrapping a contract with Canal France International (CFI). After a board meeting in Dubai on October 13, Arabsat said in a statement that it would air TV-5 programs "which will be in keeping with Arab and Islamic values," under an agreement with the French Culture Ministry. A total of 55 Egyptian crewmen yesterday returned home after having survived a blaze on a Cypriot liner. The returnees said all 500 passengers on board and the 183-strong crew escaped death by a hair's breadth, as fire erupted when the ship's chimney exploded, Al Wafd daily said today October 14. Go

Israel's army chief is trying to persuade Turkey during his two-day visit to replace its armored vehicle with Israeli Merkava III tanks, the Jerusalem Post newspaper reported Sunday. Go

Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister David Levy will most likely lead his country's delegation to the Middle East and North Africa economic conference, which is due to be held in Doha in November. Former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland is due in Cairo today to start a three-day visit for talks with Egypt foreign affairs minister Amr Moussa. The Norwegian official will meet the Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Esmat Abdl Maguid. This visit comes as part of an African tour by the Norwegian official to campaign for her bid to run for leader of the World Health Organization, Al Ahram daily said today. Go
