Jordan denies halting security coordination with Israel
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 10/13/1997
Jordanian Minister of State for Information Affairs Samir Metawe' has denied Jordan's intention to halt security coordination with Israel despite the Mossad's attempt to assassinate the chief of Hamas' political bureau, Khaled Mishal.
In a statement he made on October 12 to reporters, Dr. Metawe' confirmed Jordan's commitment to the Wadi Araba treaty with Israel including the security aspect. The minister denied the existence of an Israeli intelligence bureau in Jordan but did not deny the presence of elements of Mossad and Israeli intelligence.
Dr. Metawe' also denied an announcement by a spokesman for the Israeli embassy in Amman that two fire bombs were hurled at the embassy.
