Oil workers syndicate threatens to go on comprehensive strike
Kuwait, Economics, 10/11/1997
The general assembly of the syndicate of the workers in the Kuwaiti National Oil Company decided to authorize the board of directors of the Syndicate to take the necessary measures to protect the rights of the workers, which include their right to go on a comprehensive strike in all the utilities of the company.
The board of directors of the syndicate confirmed this position and its belief in the requests of the workers who trusted the board. It added that the door is open for goodwill efforts from those who take into consideration the high interests of the country as well as the interests of the workers.
The workers expressed their vehement displeasure toward the stance of the company regarding the negotiations, and the intransigence of the company's officials towards the rights of the workers.
The workers said, "We are not strike lovers and we estimate the situation, but we are also trying to achieve our legitimate rights."
