More than 100 beheaded this year in Saudi Arabia

A Saudi man was decapitated by sword today for rape and murder, bringing 115 to at least the number of people executed in the Saudi Arabia so far this year according to the Ministry of Interior.

The ministry said that the man had broken into the house of a woman and "raped her before shooting her dead." A ministry statement said the man, who was executed in the northern town of Tabuk, "was a well-known alcoholic and drug addict."

Saudi Arabia, under strict Islamic law, executes convicted muderers , rapists, armed robbers and drug traffickers. Last year 68 sanctions were announced, down from a record 191 in 1995.:
