Iraqi delegation to Lebanon calls for Arab unity
Iraq-Lebanon, Economics, 10/10/1997
A delegation of Iraqi industrialists on October 9 visited the Lebanese chamber of trade, industry and agriculture in Sidon as part of its official visit to Lebanon.
The Iraqi businessmen arrived in Beirut on October 7 for a week-long visit, the first since UN sanctions were imposed on Iraq in 1990. Adnan Qudsi, the head of the delegation explained the difficult situation Iraq was facing as a result of the UN embargo.
Qudsi said the increasing number of deaths in Iraq was not from hunger, but from a lack of medicine.
He called on Arab states to unify in spite of the diversity of their political policies. "Economic cooperation between Iraq, Syria and Lebanon is of vital importance," he said.
