People's Liberation of Sudan has no hope that meeting will succeed
Sudan, Politics, 10/9/1997

The People's Movement for the liberation of Sudan places no high hopes on its discussions with Sudanese President Omar El Bashir on October 28.

The movement's foreign relations official, Daniel Alore, said that the movement expects the discussion the movement will hold with Bashir under the auspices of the Kenyan President Daniel Arab Moie and Al Ifad group will not succeed.

Alore stated that the Sudanese government wants just to meet with John Garang out of its belief that it will reach an agreement with him similar to the agreements it reached with the other factions. He mentioned that the Sudanese government knows that the movement does not accept such agreements.

Alore who was coming back from the US to Cairo said that the discussions with the US officials dealt with the humanitarian situation in the areas controlled by the movement. These areas were subjected to severe draughts. He added that the outcome of his visit to the US is very good.

Alore mentioned that the war prisoners controlled by the movement are treated in a good way. Those prisoners were offered the choice either to join the National Democratic Gathering or to remain prisoners, some of them joined the opposition parties and groups.
