A shepherd family evicted from occupied zone
Lebanon, Local, 10/9/1997
A shepherd, his two wives and four children left the Israeli-occupied zone in south Lebanon on October 8 after receiving threats from Israeli troops that they could not stay in their home.
After the family left Rachf through the Beit Yahoun crossing the father, Ahmed Kabsoun, 43, said the Israelis had seized him from his home on October 1st and questioned him about links between his 17-year-old son, Ibrahim, and Hizbullah.
After his release on October 8, Ahmed was warned that he should leave his village with his family within a week because they were not wanted in the zone. "Fearing the Israelis, I couldn't wait a week, so I decided to leave as soon as possible," he said.
He is now at Siddiqin where Hizbullah secured a house for him and his family.
In addition to his 34-year-old wife and mother of his children, Zeinab Hammoud, Kabsoun brought his second wife who refused to be identified.
He was also accompanied by his son Ibrahim and three daughters, Kahdija, 14 Maryam 13, and Dalal 10, who complained that they had to leave their school in Rachf a few days after the beginning of the new academic year. Kabsoun also managed to salvage some 100 sheep and much of his household.
However, "I had to leave my blind mother behind," he said.
