Antiquities found in Aleppo
Syria, History, 10/8/1997
The joint Syrian-German archaeological mission currently working in Aleppo have recently dug up pieces of antiquities dating from the bronze age to the Arab-Islamic period.
An official source at the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums said that the new finds include the remains of Islamic building dating to the beginning of the Middle ages beside some clay utensils and coins that date back to the Memluke era at the beginning of the 14th century.
Other finds include some tiles on which beautiful pictures were engraved depicting gods and goddess of the Aramean and Hittite periods. The engravings reflect the impact of Assyrian art.
