Syrian-Iraqi meeting is first development after Gulf War

The Syrian Foreign Ministry sent an invitation to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to attend the meetings of the Syrian-Iraqi Committee responsible for discussing the issue of water on October 14 in Syria.

The two sides will study coordination of their positions regarding the Turkish measures on the rivers of Tigris and Euphrates.

Both Iraq and Syria criticized holding the World Water Conference which concluded its meetings in Istanbul as it came after the declaration of the alliance between Israel and Turkey.

The Syrian-Iraqi meeting will be chaired by the undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Irrigation Abel Satar Soliman and the Syrian Assistant Minister of Irrigation Barakat Hadid.

The two sides will study exchanging information and ways to confront Turkish water policies and its insistence on implementing water projects without coordination with the two countries. The committee met last time in February and agreed to boycot the companies implementing the Turkish projects.
