A Sudanese physician tried soon in U.K.
Sudan, Politics, 10/7/1997
Dr. Mahgoub, a Sudanese physician will be tried soon in Scotland on the charge of torturing opposition figures in Sudan as a favor to the Sudanese government.
A British paper, The Sunday Times, said Mahgoub deprived the detainees in torture centers, called "Ghost houses," of medicine and medical care.
The paper added that the trial of Mahgoub, an officer in the Sudanese army forces, will be held in Scotland at the beginning of next year. The trial is expected to spark a legal argument over trying someone in a country other than that where the crimes were committed.
Mahgoub, 38, was summoned by Dundee prosecution for interrogation, Al Khartoum daily reported today.
