French tourists travel to Egypt at a steady peace
Egypt, Economics, 10/7/1997
The influx of French tourists to Egypt has maintained a steady pace despite the September 18 criminal attack on German tourists.
An Egyptian official in Paris said calls for visas to visit Egypt, either by French citizens or foreigners residing in France, are about the normal level for this time of the year.
He added that the season in which the most French tourists visit Egypt starts in November and that this would be an opportunity to accurately assess the contribution of French tourism to overall tourism in Egypt, Al Ahrar reported.
Meanwhile, Egyptian tourism revenues rose to $476 million US in August, up from $285 million in July, statistics showed. Revenues from tourism were $386 million US in August 1996, the cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said in a public bulletin.
