Over 60,000 soldiers to Juba in south Sudan
Sudan, Military, 10/6/1997
The Sudanese government has sent reportedly sent more than 60,000 soldiers to the defense of Juba, which is besieged by the troops of the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army (SPLA).
The French newspaper "News-letter" said that the SPLA troops have cut off the roads leading to Juba. The paper added that Khartoum's government has received four Sokhoy fighters, and a bomber as a present from Russia, the planes were said to be delivered without the necessary ammunition.
The paper quoted John Garang, the SPLA chief, as saying that he found 250 gas masks in Rumbeik after its fall last May, which confirms the existence of chemical weapons, Al Khartoum reported today.
