We want a just trial - Libya Urges UN assembly
Libya, Politics, 10/1/1997
Libya called for the UN General Assembly yesterday to intervene in the Lockerbie dilemma, that has forced sanction against Tripoli, saying it couldn't receive justice from the Security Council.
Abu Zid Dorda, Libyan representative to the UN, urged more steps to assure that the two Libyans accused in a 1988 bombing of a Pan Am flight over Lockerbie which killed 270 people are tried in a neutral place, rather than Scotland or the US, Al Akhbar daily said today.
The security council imposed sanctions on Libya in 1992 for refusing to extradite the two to Britain or the US.
Addressing the assembly Dorda said, "My country urges you to intervene in this problem so that we can reach a peaceful solution to this dispute. We want to accelerate the holding of a just trial without any prior condemnation in any other place to be agreed upon or decided by the security council."
