Turkish withdrawal from north Iraq demanded
Iraq, Politics, 10/1/1997
France on September 30 called for a Turkish withdrawal from northern Iraq, and for respect for the unity and sovereignty of Iraq.
Foreign ministry spokesman Jaques Rummelhaardt expressed France's anxiety about the foreign military intervention in Iraq, pointing out that this act has dangerous consequences on the stability in northern Iraq.
He also pointed to France's stance in the region, stressing that it commits itself to the sovereignty of countries and rejects any violation of this principle. He added France always calls for the accurate implementation of UN Security Council resolution No. 688.
