Arabs condemn Turkish aggression against Iraq

In its statement issued on September 29, the General Secretariat of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions demanded that Turkey withdraw immediately and unconditionally from Iraqi lands and adopt a policy based on respecting the neighborly relations, the sovereignty of neighboring states and Turkish-Arab joint interests. The statement came as part of widespread Arab condemnation of the Turkish actions.
Turkey sent troops into Iraqi territory last week where it attacked on the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) which has fought the military since 1984 for self-rule in Southeast Turkey. Turkey, aided by the Iraq-based Kurdistan Democratic Party, made a similar incursion into northeast Iraq last June to take out PKK bases there.
The people's vocational and unionist federations, organizations and commissions called for condemning this aggression and working for the withdrawal of the Turkish troops from Iraq in defense of peace and security in the region.
Sunday, the Arab Bar Association called for immediate intervention by international and Arab communities to force Turkey to withdraw its forces from Iraqi territory and respect Iraq's sovereignty.
In a statement issued on September 28, the Arab Bar Association condemned Turkey's aggression northern Iraq. The statement described the aggression as a dangerous violation of Iraq's sovereignty and independence, as well as international laws.
Meanwhile in Doha, Qatar condemned the new Turkish incursion into northern Iraq, saying that this will threaten stability in the region.
