Resolving the crisis of Al Ansar in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 9/30/1997

A group of Al Ansar members (the Supporters of Al Mahdi) submitted a memorandum to Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir requesting the government to give back Al Mahdi mosque, which the goverment seized. Ahmed Al Mahdi, the uncle of Al Sadek Al Mahdi, said that Al Ansar (the Supporters) reached an agreement and decided to disregard the controversial issues which caused the tension between members of Al Ansar.

Al Mahdi held meetings with a number of elderly and young men of Al Ansar and declared that they agreed on puting aside all differences and to work on activating the Al Ansar Affairs Association and the Committee of Al Imam Abdul Rahman Al Mahdi Mosque. He pointed out that the agreement stipulated that the Mosque will concentrate on religious matters and stop the political sloganeering.

He added that they will not cease declaring their views regarding essential issues such as the call for more freedom and the necessity of deliberation and dialogue to resolve the nation's problems in peaceful manner.
