Hariri promises quick solutions to hospital payment problem
Lebanon, Medicine, 9/30/1997
Members of the union of hospital owners met yesterday with several officials to discuss the latest union decision, which consisted of the refusal to admit patients covered by the government's social security before the due hospital fee is paid.
The first meeting took place with the minister of health, Suleiman Frengieh. It was followed by another meeting with prime minister Rafik Hariri. The minister of communication Bassem El-Sabeh and the president of the General Labor Confederation Ghaneem El-Zughby assisted to this meeting, during which the prime minister urged the union to reverse its decision. The president of the union, Fawzi Odaymeh, stated after the meeting that emergency and humanitarian cases will be admitted to the hospitals and that Mr. Hariri has promised some quick and effective solutions.
After that, the union members visited speaker Nabih Berri in his residence at Ein-El-Tineh, where Odaymeh insisted that the union's decision was not political but due to the difficult financial situation of the hospitals. Finally, the union members met with the minister of work Assaad Hardan and the president of the social security Abdel-Halim Hreybeh. While Hreybeh expressed his surprise of the accusation aimed, unjustly according to him, at the social security, president Odaymeh replied that the hospitals' problems with the social security were centered around the difficulty of the formalities needed for reimbursement.
