Unity and Reform Movement to participate in Moroccan election
Morocco, Politics, 9/29/1997
The Head of the Islamic-oriented Moroccan Unity and Reform Movement, Dr. Ahmed Al Raysony, disclosed the movement's determination to participate in legislative elections due to be held in the coming weeks.
He linked this determination with the stance of the People's Constitutional Democratic Movement Party (PCDMP) which is in line with some moderate Islamic streams that are offshoots of the Unity and Reform Movement and the Islamic Future Association.
Diplomatic sources say that the final decision regarding the participation in the election will be made in the light of the current political dispute, especially that the PCDMP led by Dr. Abdel Karim Al Khatib the former speaker of the parliament halted its participation in the municipal election in the beginning of summer this year.
Well informed diplomatic sources expected that the election date will be fixed within the coming days.
